Our third ticket to the NCAA Tournament has been decided. For the first time ever, High Point will be dancing. The Panthers knocked off Winthrop to win the Big South Tournament, coming back from down double digits in the game.
High Point finished the season 29-5, winning the Big South title for the second straight season. Last year the Panthers were upset by Longwood in the semifinals.
In terms of placement in the bracket, Bracket Matrix projected the Panthers as a 13 seed as recently as this morning, but at 81 in KenPom, High Point likely could move up to a 12 if some of the teams above fail to qualify for the tournament.
Over the next week and change, you will hear a lot of people say how dangerous High Point is as a mid-major. The Panthers are a top-25 offense in the nation led by a handful of great guards. Alan Huss has done a tremendous job this past two seasons and the work has finally paid off as High Point will hear their name called one week from today on Selection Sunday.
