Since taking over at Norfolk State over a decade ago, Robert Jones has built quite the resumé. His program has been the standard in the MEAC with three regular season titles and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. This season, Jones might have his best group yet and last night, they extended their lead in the conference to two games.

With under seven minutes to play, Norfolk State trailed by double digits at home to NC Central. Without a huge run, the Spartans clawed back into the game with Brian Moore Jr. eventually hitting the game-winning three at the buzzer.

Norfolk State has won seven of its last eight games and four in a row. Their KenPom ranking at 174 is higher than any season finish in Jones’ tenure in Norfolk.

If you watched the ending, you definitely noticed the fans rushing the court after Moore’s game-winner. That happening, in my opinion, was the perfect ending to a great basketball game. Remember folks, on any given night in college basketball, if you want a great game, you can find one.

Norfolk State will now enter a tough seven-game stretch to end the regular season where five of their final seven games will be on the road. That includes a return trip to NC Central and a trip to second place Howard to wrap it up. That is of course, right before the Spartans will head eight minutes across town for the MEAC Tournament where they will try to clinch an NCAA Tournament bid and get the highest seed in the tournament under Jones.
